Dark Chocolate Cherry Fondue

Here’s an utterly delicious and shareable recipe featuring our Frozen Organic Dark Sweet Cherries from our friend Shanon at The Curvy Carrot

I came up with this romantic do-it-yourself treat to share with the one you love on the Big Day (even if it's just yourself on the couch watching “Girls”). The nice thing about this recipe is that it's fairly straightforward, using Earthbound's frozen organic cherries, chopped chocolate, cream and a little extra boost of almond-cherry flavor. I love that a company I traditionally always connected with plastic clamshells and fresh spinach now has frozen organic fruits and vegetables in my local grocery store, including these cherries.

1/2 cup heavy (whipping) cream
1/2 cup Earthbound Farm Frozen Organic Dark Sweet Cherries (thawed and chopped into small pieces)
10 ounces high-quality bittersweet chocolate, or your favorite chocolate (chopped into small pieces)
1 tablespoon almond extract (or Kirsch liqueur)

In a heatproof bowl set over simmering water (or in a fondue pot, if you have one), combine the heavy cream and chopped cherries, heating until just simmering.

Slowly stir in the chopped chocolate, mixing until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.

Add the almond extract (or Kirsch, if using), adjusting the flavor to taste.

If you’re using a fondue pot, keep the mixture over a low flame. Otherwise, transfer the fondue to small bowls and reheat gently if needed.

Serve warm with stem or sliced strawberries, sliced bananas, shortbread cookies, or your favorite fresh fruit. Makes about 2 cups of fondue.
