When the Responsible Packaging Project announced the winners of the 2012 Responsible Packaging Awards, Earthbound Farm was proud to have been named a winner for our new zip-top clamshell salad packages that eliminate the PVC shrink band around the lid. The new package requires less plastic to manufacture and is easier for consumers to open.
“We are encouraged by the number of companies in the organic and natural industry that are thinking deeply and strategically about packaging decisions. The Responsible Packaging Awards recognize brands that are taking responsibility for their product packaging by pursuing innovation, redesign, new material sourcing, collaboration, open dialogue with peers, and a pursuit of a zero-waste future.” says Nate Schlachter, Executive Director of the Sustainable Food Trade Association.
The annual awards highlight organic and natural industry achievements and innovations in packaging under the project's three guidelines: Transparency, Ecological Principles and Extended Producer Responsibility. The awards recognize brands for materials reduction, use of 100% post-consumer recycled material, non-GMO bio materials, compostability, 3rd-party certified packaging, packaging that is returnable for reuse and easily recycled or reused by the end user.
The Responsible Packaging Project is a non-profit collaboration of the Sustainable Food Trade Association, Independent Natural Foods Retailers Association, National Cooperative Grocers Association, Organic Trade Association, United Natural Foods, Inc. and Whole Foods Market’s Green Mission.
