Food Is Fuel
We are what we eat. It’s as simple — and as important — as that.
Your body is a complex machine, and food is its only fuel. High-quality fuel helps it run well; give it junk and you’ll get the opposite: your body will struggle, developing diseases and even breaking down.
So if food is fuel, you can eat healthier to be healthier…when our bodies are healthier, we’re happier. You see where this is going, right?
Here are some more specific tips for eating the right foods at the right time:
- Eat breakfast. Experts call it the most important meal of the day! If you’re rushed in the morning, stock up on portable breakfast like whole fruit, lowfat yogurt or cheese, whole grain granola bars or even healthy homemade muffins. - Snack like you mean it. Americans get an average of 24% of calories from snacks, so healthy choices can make a big difference in helping you avoid overeating and energy crashes. Check out 31 Healthy Snacks for Adults from Readers Digest.
- Learn what your body wants. Nutrition can seem complicated, but you don’t need a degree to understand the basics. We found a terrific easy-to-read reference in the Fuel Your Body series from the Cleveland Clinic.
