Two City Kids Walk onto a Farm…
Back in the summer of 1984, Drew and Myra Goodman were a couple of New York City kids fresh out of school when they arrived in California’s Carmel Valley. They settled on a little 2½-acre farm full of raspberry bushes and fell in love with the natural beauty of the land. They knew nothing about farming; they thought their little garden would just be a nice break before grad school.
But when the farmer came to teach them how to apply the pesticides and fertilizers to the berries, instinct kicked in. They just couldn’t bring themselves to use those chemicals, literally right in their backyard. There had to be a better way…so they taught themselves to farm the spectacular land organically, producing food they could feel good about serving to their families, friends and neighbors. That labor of love became Earthbound Farm.
By 1986 Earthbound Farm became the first company to successfully launch prewashed, packaged salad for retail sale. When we introduced our Spring Mix to restaurants and supermarket produce aisles, you could say we started a salad revolution.
Today, gourmet organic salad greens and packaged salads are staples of grocery baskets everywhere. Earthbound has grown into the country’s largest grower of organic produce, yet our original commitment has never wavered: we’re dedicated to bringing the benefits of fresh, flavorful and healthy organic food to as many people as possible.
Choosing Earthbound organic foods for yourself and your family means that you’re part of our story — together, we’re making a difference in the way America eats.
