Eating fresh produce is one of the simplest ways we can take care of our health — but we’re not eating enough. In a recent survey, the Centers for Disease Control found that 3 out of 4 Americans don’t eat 3 veggies a day…and 2 out of 3 eat fewer than 2 fruits a day!

Plant-based foods deliver the nutrients we all need for healthy immune systems, strong bones and healthy body weight — and for defending ourselves against killers like cancer and heart disease. Choosing organic produce also keeps synthetic chemicals out of your food and out of our environment, too!

How much is “more”? Every body is different, but the CDC’s calculator can help you figure out what you need, based on your age, gender and physical activity. Then:

  1. Add fruit or veggies to your favorite meal: a vibrant breakfast smoothie…crunchy veggies with delicious dip at lunch…a fresh salad or a new veggie side dish for dinner.
  2. Try a Meatless Monday (any day of the week). One delicious vegetarian recipe a week can make a big difference in how you feel all the time.
  3. Indulge in summer’s bounty. What beats a ripe, juicy nectarine or a perfect red strawberry for a snack? And great fruit makes your favorite dessert recipe even better!
