WHAT’S HAPPENING
Cal Stamenov, Executive Chef at the award-winning Bernardus Lodge, will help us wrap up our event season this Saturday by leading our last Chef Walk of 2009. You’ll learn why Chef Cal is committed to organic and sustainable ingredients for his menus as you pick your own fresh organic produce. Afterward, he’ll do a live demonstration of recipes that feature some of the ingredients you’ve just harvested, and you’ll take home his recipes to try in your own kitchen.
Coming in December: Holiday Wreath-Making. This year we’ll have two Saturdays of our immensely popular Holiday Wreath-Making Workshops at the Farm Stand, Dec. 5 and 12, from 11am-2pm. $20/person includes instruction and materials. Wreath making is always among our most popular annual events; we hope you’ll join us! Call the Farm Stand at (831) 625-6219 x3 for details, or see our Farm Stand Event Calendar online. We’re planning our 2010 Saturday event season now — watch for more information here in eNews and on our website in the new year!
You’ll know the butternut by its distinctive thick neck and bulbous bottom, with smooth, pinky-beige skin that’s relatively thin. Its firm, bright-orange flesh is sweet and lightly nutty, with a creamy texture that’s good for all kinds of recipes. Try it in our Butternut and Chevre Tartlettes; Linguine with Butternut, Spinach, and Pancetta; or Carrot Butternut Soup. For lots of information about winter squashes, and more of our favorite squash recipes, check out our Ingredient Archive online.
