Hot Oat Cereal with Dried Fruits
Serves 16 (about 8 cups dry cereal)

Cereal is surprisingly expensive relative to the cost of the individual ingredients. Why not make your own healthy cereal at a fraction of the price? Here a variety of whole grains, almonds, and dried fruits make a sure-to-please combination. Store the cereal mix in an airtight container in the freezer to keep it fresh.



4 cups thick-cut old fashioned rolled or steel-cut oats

3/4 cup unsalted raw sunflower seeds

1/2 cup wheat germ

1/2 cup oat bran

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 cup Earthbound Farm Organic Dried Cranberries

1/2 cup Earthbound Farm Organic Raisins

1/2 cup Earthbound Farm Organic Dried Plums, chopped

3/4 cup toasted slivered almonds



Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir to blend. Store in an airtight container in the freezer for maximum freshness.

To make individual servings, bring 1-1/4 cups of water to a boil in a small pan. Add 1/2 cup of dry cereal mix and a pinch of salt. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the cereal is thickened to your liking, 8 to 12 minutes. Serve hot with maple syrup.
