Christmas Creamed Cauliflower
“I was just out of high school and working at my first job when I met my friend Anne. It was Christmas and her parents lived about half an hour away. We agreed that I would drive her home and stay for the family’s Christmas Eve party.
“Everyone was having a good time eating, drinking, and telling stories when I heard Anne’s Uncle Bill ask her mother where his favorite dish was. I wondered why everyone started laughing and teasing him. She had so many desserts and appetizers on the table that I couldn???t imagine what he was waiting for.
“When she came out of the kitchen with a steaming bowl of creamed cauliflower, I laughed. I found out that she made it for him every Christmas Eve and he ate the whole head all by himself. He said no one made it as good as she did.
“Forty years later when Anne and I get together, we still talk about Uncle Bill and how much he loved his Christmas creamed cauliflower.”
