![]() “My sister is 20 years older than me and a little more of a perfectionist. She’d always had Thanksgiving at her home, but because of her perfectionism she couldn’t have another one at her house, so the rest of the family decided to have it at my house this year. “My niece and I are only a few years apart, and we were reminiscing about previous Thanksgivings: we tried to help make the ham, but we weren’t allowed… we tried to make the pumpkin pie, but we weren’t doing it right… we stood by the deviled eggs, only to be told, ‘You’re not mashing the yolks right,’ always ending with the same ‘Just let me do it.’ So we did. “When Thanksgiving finally fell into my lap — well, I was not prepared! The ham came out of the freezer THAT MORNING. The pumpkin pie was brought out of the freezer along with the pecan pie; I thought the pumpkin pie just needed thawing, like the pecan… it was ready on Friday. The turkey that my husband fried came out delicious, the stuffing my sister made was amazing, the mashed potatoes that my niece made were wonderful. Everything I touched was… well, frozen. “But you know what? It was funny and memorable, and I think my sister liked being able to say that Thanksgiving tasted better at her house. I’m fine with that!” |
