“I was diagnosed as a diabetic last March. It was both a turning and learning point in my life.
“I’ve always enjoyed greens, but I could never find any that really tasted good during the winter. I posted a wanted ad on our local Freecycle site to trade my time working in a green house in return for winter veggies.
“My dream came true in Farmer Allan (yes, that’s what he’s called). He has a nice-sized organic farm. I work 4 hours a week in exchange for veggies. I get really great greens, but the best part is I get to learn something new and lose weight — I’m getting multiple ways to be healthier all in one place.”
