Food Technologist Internship

Summary

Works cross-functionally with the Operations department to conduct experiments for the development of new food products and process improvement projects for an Organic Salad Manufacturer and Commodity Distributor.

Primary Responsibilities

• Execute test methods for the development new products and/or equipment in the production plant
• Generate Standard Operating Procedures specifications for new products or new processes adopted in the product plant
• Support food packaging selection and testing to qualify new food packaging
• Work with Production and Quality Assurance personnel to execute new or improved processes in the production plant
• Assist in the validation of new processes in the production plant
• Assist in the collection of microbial samples and evaluate the data

Job Requirements

• Data collection, entry, and statistical analysis of information gathered during testing
• Research technical papers and apply new technologies to the development of new products
• Good foundation of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access, technical writing, and organizational proficiency with a strong emphasis on detail
• Report status of projects
• Requires some work in a refrigerated environment (36??F) and must be able to lift 40 lbs
• Flexible hours ??? may require some evenings
• Work in a team as well as independently

Qualified candidates require enrollment in a Bachelor of Science in Food Science, Nutrition, Agriculture, or Microbiology program. Internships or summer jobs at food processing facility is helpful. Bilingual not required however a plus.
